The journey takes you into the western part of Burma to Mrauk U. The city was in the 15th Century the capital of Arakan Kingdom, which also included large parts of present Bangladesh. At its peak, the city was home to a population of 120,000 people. Even today travellers can admire the many temples and countless sacred pagodas which have survived the time. Next is the circular Ratanabon Pagoda and Andawthein Ordination Hall, containing rare stone carvings. The tour continues to the Archaeological museum with its fine old artifacts. Later on you see the old Bandoola Monastery and the massive, fortress-like Dukkanthein Pagoda with its exceptional stone sculptures. Continue to the oldest pagoda, the Laymyetnha, built in 1430. There are a few small villages surrounding Mrauk U. You will visit a very unique one, inhabited by one of the oldest tribes in the country, the Thet people. Then transfer back to your hotel.
Enjoy the sunrise over the misty hills of Mrauk U. After breakfast at the hotel, visit the local market. Then continue to the impressive Koethaung Temple with the 90,000 images. From the Pisi Taung you will have a spectacular view over the temples, city walls and its gates, as well as nearby farms.
