Explore the capital of Burma, with its pagodas and colonial district and fly further north to Bagan. Bagan is one of the regions that played an important role in the history of Burma, with many pagodas, monasteries, wall paintings which have been preserved very well by the dry climate in the region.

Location Information
DAY 1 Yangon

Upon arrival at the airport in Yangon, pickup and transfer to the hotel for check-in.  Spend the time till later afternoon at your leisure. Then the guide will pick you up and escorts you for sunset to the good 100 meter high gilded Shwedagon Pagoda. After visiting Myanmar’s most holy place the tour continues to Little India. This district will take you straight to India without living Myanmar. Besides the exotic sights, smells and sound you will visit the photogenic Sri Kali Indian temple. The tour leads to Chinatown with its colorful night market, where you visit the Cantonese Kwan Yin temple. Adjoining is the 19th street, famous for its restaurants. Here you can have a delightful meal before transfer back to the hotel.

DAY 2 Yangon – Bagan

Early morning transfer to the airport for a flight to Bagan. Upon arrival at Nyaung U airport, transfer to the hotel and check-in. Then the guide shows you the colorful local market. Visit the Shwezigon Pagoda with its impressive golden chedi.  Continue to Wetkyi-In Village and see the remarkable Gubyaukyi Pagoda. Well worth seeing are the frescoes with scenes from the previous lives of the Buddha. Last stop in the morning will be at the fantastic Htilominlo temple.

In the afternoon visit the Ananda Okkyaung and Ananda Temple, masterpieces of Mon architecture. The tour continues to the highest temple in Bagan, the 66m high Thatbyinnyu. The last visiting monument is the most massive brick temple in the region, the Dhammayangyi. 

In the late afternoon you head by horse cart to the pier at the Irrawaddy River and board the waiting boat. Enjoy a romantic sunset while gently cruising. Transfer to your hotel.

DAY 3 Bagan – Salay – Mt Popa – Bagan

After an early breakfast drive to Popa Mountain, some 48 kilometers southeast of Bagan. Mount Popa is a 1500m high extinct volcano. 777 steps leading to the summit which takes about ½ hour walk. There is a monastery as well as the revered shrines with interesting insights into the Buddhist culture.

In the early afternoon you leave Mount Popa and drive to the Pozolam Factory. From here begins a pleasant one hour walk to the southern village of Popa Taungyur and back. On the easy path will be a stop for a chat with a friendly family in lone house. The guide will be your translator. Then continue the stroll along farms with their traditional houses. In the village pass the local school and see the Mount Popa in the distance. The way back leads over Myauk Wyur, the northern village. Here you can see the gigantic Banyan tree, surrounded by many shrines. On the way back to Bagan is another stop by a palm sugar processing plant. They also produce fermented beers and tequila which you can try. Afterwards transfer back to your hotel.

DAY 4 Bagan – Yangon

In the morning transfer to the airport for your flight back to Yangon. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. The tour guide picks you up and shows the famous Sule Pagoda. Opportunity to let your future been foretold by a fortune teller. On the way to Mahabandoola Park you can admire some of the well preserved colonial buildings. Continue along the Pansodan Street to the river and further on to the Victorian-style Strand Hotel. It is a good place for some refreshments before heading to the Merchant Street for another stop at a Burmese tea shop. The guide will escort you after to a restaurant of your choice where you can have lunch.

In the afternoon visit the 65 meter long reclining Buddha at the Chaukhtatkyi Pagoda. Then head for a stroll through the Bogyoke Aung San market. It is also called Scott Market and has numerous shops, selling all kinds of handicrafts. The last place to visit is the Kandawgyi Park. Enjoy a fantastic sunset, with the outstanding Shwedagon reflecting in the water of the lake. Transfer to your hotel or to a restaurant of your choice.

DAY 5 Yangon

After breakfast at the hotel transfer to Yangon Central Station. You board the Circular Train. During the next hour you can get a good glimpse at the daily life of the locals. It takes you from the city center to the rural area where farmers can be seen doing their work. After one third of the full round trip you disembark and visit a lively fresh food market. The tour continues by car to the Kalaywa Monatery, home to almost 2,000 monks. Before the final transfer to the airport, the guide will escort you to a restaurant of your choice for lunch.
