This is a cross-country tour. It starts with a visit to the capital Bangkok. Afterwards an exceptional journey leads to the highlights of Central- and Northern Thailand. It continues on the mighty Mekong River to Luang Prabang. During the subsequent overland tour towards Vientiane visit the unique attractions of Laos.

Location Information
DAY 1 - 3 Bangkok

Pick up from the airport in Bangkok and transfer to the Hotel. The next days are at your leisure. Explore the magnificent temples and relicts. Discover the bustling Chinatown, the modern shopping malls and relax in idyllic parks.

DAY 3 Bangkok – Phitsanulok

Early morning pick up at the hotel in Bangkok. Drive to Bang Pa-In and visit the Royal Summer Palace. Board a longtail boat and drive along small river communities to Ayutthaya. After arrival in Thailand’s old capital visit the huge seated Buddha at Wat Phanang Choen. Continue to Wat Yai Chai-Mongkol with its large chedi. Lunch in a local restaurant at the riverside. Drive northwards to the historic city of Phitsanulok. Check in at the hotel. Visit Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, known as Wat Yai. The temple houses the statue of Phra Buddha Chinnarat, one of the most beautiful Buddha images in Thailand. Afterwards visit a nearby Buddha statue factory. Return to the hotel for overnight.

DAY 4 Phitsanulok – Mae Sot

After breakfast drive to Thailand’s first capital Sukhothai. Visit the historical park, an UNESCO world heritage site. Explore its impressive temple complexes, palace buildings and Buddha sculptures. Drive west towards the border of Myanmar. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afterwards explore the Lansang National Park. Hike to one of the scenic waterfalls. Continue to the border town of Mae Sot. Visit Wat Thai Wattanaram, also known as Wat Thai Yai. The temple houses a 45 meter long reclining Buddha image and a beautiful marble Buddha statue. Transfer to the hotel and check in.

DAY 5 Mae Sot – Mae Sariang

After breakfast visit the colorful border market. Thai, Burmese, Chinese, Indians and Karen people are trading a huge variety of items. The following scenic drive leads along Moei River through the mountains. Stop at a refugee camp. Visit a Karen hill tribe village. Afterwards explore the Mae Usu cave with its impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Lunch at a local restaurant. At Mae Ngao National Park enjoy rafting along the Mae Ngao River. The ride leads through dense tropical forest. Drive to Mae Sariang and check in at the hotel.

DAY 6 Mae Sariang – Chiang Mai

After breakfast drive along rice fields towards Mae Chaem district. Stop at some farms and chance to communicate with the locals. Continue to the 2,565 meter high Doi Inthanon. It is Thailand's highest mountain and located at Doi Inthanon National Park. Enjoy the fantastic view from the mountain plateau. Visit of the royal pagodas. Lunch at a local restaurant. Walk to the Wachirathan waterfall. Drive to the hotel in Chiang Mai and check in. In the evening visit the country’s biggest night market.

DAY 7 Chiang Mai

After breakfast at the hotel short drive to Doi Suthep Mountain. A staircase leads to the most holy temple of Chiang Mai, Wat Phra That. Admire the view onto Chiang Mai and the surrounding countryside from the temple terrace. Lunch at a local restaurant. Drive back to the hotel. Relax or explore the nearby old part of Chiang Mai. In the evening enjoy a classical Kantoke Dinner with traditional northern Thailand folk dances. Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 8 Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai

Pick up at the hotel in Chiang Mai and drive to the elephant camp. During an interesting show the elephants perform some forestry tasks. Enjoy an elephant trek through the forest. After drive on the scenic road to Chiang Dao district. Lunch at a local restaurant. Explore the Chiang Dao cave. The stalactite-laden chambers are large and impressive. Continue along the mountain road towards Thaton. This region is called “Little Tuscany” because of its wine yards and wine productions. Visit the picturesque Wat Thaton with its giant Buddha statue. Drive along the jungle covered mountains to Chiang Rai. Check in at the hotel and explore the small colorful night market.

DAY 9 Chiang Rai – Chiang Khong

After breakfast visit the unique temple complex of Wat Rong Khun, also called “White Temple”. Drive along winding roads to Doi Tung Mountain. Visit the beautiful Mae Fah Luang Garden. Continue northwards to the former Royal City of Chiang Saen. Boat trip along the mighty Mekong River towards the Golden Triangle. Stop at the Laotian river island. Lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the impressive sandbanks in the Mekong. Explore the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Visit the interesting Opium Museum. Afterwards transfer to the hotel in Chiang Khong for check in.

DAY 10 Chiang Khong – Pakbeng

Early morning transfer to the Laotian border town Huay Xay. Board the river boat.  Relax and enjoy the beautiful river scenery during the cruise. The small villages along the worlds’ 10th longest river are home to minority ethnic groups.  Buffet lunch on the boat. Late afternoon arrival in Pakbeng. Check in at the hotel. Dinner on the terrace with view over the Mekong.

DAY 11 Pakbeng – Luang Prabang

After breakfast at the hotel visit the morning market. Transfer to the boat and cruise towards Luang Prabang. Stop at a Hmong settlement and explore the village. Afterwards buffet lunch on the boat. The next stop is at the mysterious Pak Ou caves. The two caves contain thousands of Buddha statues, vary in sizes and shapes. Another short stop is at a small village, well known for the production of rice wine. In the late afternoon arrival in Luang Prabang. Transfer to the hotel with check-in.

For the next day you may discuss with your guide about the possibility of an early start. Each morning at 05.30 the monks will go for the alms round. You can watch and partake in this for Buddhist important ritual.

DAY 12 Luang Prabang

After breakfast visit the Royal Palace Museum. Then head to Wat Xiengthong. The temple roof is almost touching the ground. Continue to Wat Mai with the unique five tiered roof. Afterwards visit the watermelon shaped Wat Visoun. Early afternoon visit the Arts and Ethnology Centre. Next stop is at Ban Xangkhong and Ban Xienglek, known for their superb textile-weaving products. Late afternoon visit Mt. Phousi for a spectacular sunset. The view over the Mekong River and the city of Luang Prabang is fantastic. Transfer back to the hotel.

DAY 13 Luang Prabang & Kuang Si Waterfall

After breakfast short drive to the silk weaving center Ock Pop Tock. All the different process steps of silk weaving will be shown and explained. On the way to the Kuang Si Waterfall is an option to visit the villages of the Khmu, Hmong and Lao Loum ethnic groups. After reaching the stunning waterfall, relax and swim in the clear pool or take a walk along the jungle trails. On the way back to the hotel visit the Bear Rescue Centre. The afternoon is at your leisure.

DAY 14 Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng

Pick up early morning from your hotel and drive southwards. The mountain road leads along rolling hills, small villages and limestone rock formations. Stop at viewpoints. Visit the Khmu village Ban Kiu Kam Pone. Stop for a rest at Phou Phueng Fa. The view, when weather permits, is terrific. Afterwards visit the picturesque Hmong settlement Ban Hin Ngon. Explore the market at Koe Kuang. The next stop is at Phatang Mountain, another fantastic viewpoint. Continue to Vang Vieng and check in at the hotel.

DAY 15 Vang Vieng – Vientiane

After breakfast explore Tham Jang cave. The view from the entrance over the surrounding limestone formations and Nam Song River is fantastic. Drive southwards and visit the small village of Tha Heua, known for its dried river fish. The next stop is at the picturesque Nam Ngum lake. It is a popular daytrip destination for the Vientiane townsfolk. Afterwards visit a salt mine at Ban Keun. Before reaching Vientiane stop at the Don Makai Market. Transfer to the hotel and check in.

DAY 16 Vientiane city tour & Buddha Park

After breakfast visit Wat Sisaket, Vientiane’s oldest temple. Next stop is at the former royal temple Wat Prakeo. Continue to the Patuxai Monument, known as the Arc de Triumph of Vientiane. Enjoy the panoramic view from the top of the gate. Afterwards visit That Luang Stupa, the national symbol of Laos. Continue to the COPE exhibition center. In the early afternoon short drive to the Buddha Park. It contains more than 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues, including a 40 meter high reclining Buddha. There is an optional stop at the Lao Disabled Women’s Centre. On the way back to the hotel stop for a fantastic sunset over the Mekong River.

DAY 17 Vientiane – Airport

After breakfast spend the remaining hours till transfer to the airport at your leisure.
